Glorious Discussions Concerning Interactive Entertainment: Hide

September 29, 2011

I’m sorry to have kept you waiting, but it’s finally time to get the Glorious Discussions Concerning Interactive Entertainment started for the term. I will endeavor to have games chosen a week in advance for the rest of the discussions, but this is what happens, sometimes, when I have to make decisions.

For those not in the know, the Glorious Discussions Concerning Interactive Entertainment (GDCIE) are a chance for us, as game developers, to study our contemporaries and explore the medium (do I sound pretentious yet?). How it works is I’ll pick a game (you can also give me suggestions which I may or may not heed), we’ll all play it, and then we’ll get together and discuss the game’s design, artistic merit, etc. Hopefully in a way that’s relevant to us as game makers.

The first GDCIE this term will be Tuesday October 4, 2011 at 6:00pm in MC2017MC2054. We will be discussing:

Hide, by Andrew Shouldice

This is the sort of game that’s probably best played in the dark, probably with headphones or something ([censored – ed.] laptop speakers are no good for atmosphere, if you ask me). Difficult to say how long it’ll take you to play; you might decide you’ve seen all you need after 10 minutes, or you also might want to spend a bit more time than that exploring.

Give the game a play. Whether you love it or hate it or anything in between, if you feel you have something to say, show up and talk about it. Or, even if you have nothing in particular to say about it yourself, you might want to show up and hear what the rest of us think.

Nothing left to say,
Jonathan Semple
