Reminder: GDCIE Shadow Hunters

November 28, 2011 Comments off

See? I didn’t lie this time. No room change. The ultimate (as in final) GDCIE of the term will be tomorrow, Tuesday November 29, 2011 at 6:00pm in MC4058. We will be discussing:

Shadow Hunters, by Yasutaka Ikeda
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/24068/shadow-hunters

Again, this will be one of those things where we play the game at the discussion. I usually figure something fun and multiplayer is a good way to end the GDCIE for the term.

Glorious Discussions Concerning Interactive Entertainment: Shadow Hunters

November 22, 2011 1 comment

Well, this is it. The end of all things. Not really. But this will be the final discussion of the term. The next GDCIE will be Tuesday November 29, 2011 at 6:00pm in MC4058. Yes, I double checked this time, that’s the room we have booked. We will be discussing:

Shadow Hunters, by Yasutaka Ikeda
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/24068/shadow-hunters

So, we didn’t stay in the electronic domain of interaction for very long after all. Following the sort-of-tradition of ending the GDCIE for the term with something multiplayer, we will be discussing another board game, and doing that thing where we play it at the discussion.

Reminder: GDCIE TRAUMA (room change)

November 21, 2011 Comments off

What is up with me and getting these rooms wrong? I have no excuse for this one, because I knew what room we’re supposed to be in, I just wrote down the wrong thing in that last post. I must be getting my events mixed up. The next GDCIE is tomorrow, Tuesday November 22, 2011 at 6:00pm in MC4058. We will be discussing:

TRAUMA, by Krystian Majewski

The Paper Jam has been and gone, so with TRAUMA we will be returning to the electronic variety of interactive entertainment. For this week at least. It may be of note that this will be the penultimate GDCIE of the term.

Paper Jam: Murder and Love

November 18, 2011 Comments off

It’s finally time. Paper Jam begins now. Do you all want to know the theme?

Theme: Murder

Subtheme: Love

There you have it. We have ML216 booked for pretty much the whole day tomorrow (10am to 10pm). We’ll meet up there in the morning and jam for the rest of the day. The Paper Jam will end at approximately 9:00pm on Saturday November 19, 2011.

Note that this is technically meant to be a 24 hour jam. So start now. If everyone gets some rough rules drafts down tonight, you’ll be ready to start play-testing your game, and other people’s games, as soon as you get to the jam tomorrow. If you want people to brainstorm with, bounce ideas off of, or whatever, hop on the irc channel (see the about page). I’ll try to stay on irc for at least the rest of today, so even if there’s no one else on I should be there.

The club does have some materials for pen and paper game making. We have some 6 sided dice around, and I have some 10 sided dice I can bring. I’ll also bring some paper and stuff (maybe a deck of playing cards if I can get my hands on one). However, if you have any dice or other things you think might be useful, don’t hesitate to bring them. And remember, that even if other people might bring materials you can use for your game, the only way to ensure you have what you need is to bring it yourself.

Glorious Discussions Concerning Interactive Entertainment: TRAUMA

November 15, 2011 Comments off

We will be returning to the electronic variety of interactive entertainment for the next discussion. This means we’ll be back to our usual routine of playing the game first, rather than at the discussion proper. The next GDCIE will be Tuesday November 22, 2011 at 6:00pm in MC2054MC4058. We will be discussing:

TRAUMA, by Krystian Majewski
http://www.traumagame.com/

This is an incredibly artsy point-and-click adventure-ish game. It should take you about an hour to play through, though it might take longer for you to fully explore the game and see everything there is.

You may notice that you can purchase a downloadable version of the game from its website, but doing so is not strictly necessary. The version available online is unabridged. However, if you like the game then I strongly encourage you to support the artist and throw a little money their way.

Reminder: GDCIE Apocalypse Girl (room change)

November 14, 2011 Comments off

So, I went and lied to you when I first told you the room for the next discussion. I did correct that mistake, but you probably didn’t notice, so take note. The next GDCIE will be tomorrow, Tuesday November 15, 2011 at 6:00pm in MC4041. We will be discussing:

Apocalypse Girl, by Sydney Freedberg
http://www.1km1kt.net/rpg/apocalypse-girl

As mentioned before, this is a pen and paper style rpg, and one that was made in 24 hours to boot, so it might serve to get people prepped for the Paper Jam this weekend. We’re going to playing it at the discussion, but it would be best if everyone gave the rules a read before hand, so we can get right to playing with minimal explanation. Also, if anyone has some six sided dice around, they might consider bringing them along (we have a bunch, but more would be appreciated).
